There are many different types of files you can find on the Internet and download. Many will need different programs to help you view or open the files. Here are many common ones you will need!

There are many other programs for viewing or opening or listening to files you download. Those listed here are among the most common, or ones that I use.

There are some single players that may handle many of these file types (like one audio/video player may handle nearly all of your audio/video files.)

ZIP

ZIP compressed files are about the most common file type you'll find.

RAR

RAR files are another type of compressed files--like ZIP files, but a different way of compressing.

MP3, WAV

Music and sounds.
CD Burning Software
    Drag-and-Drop MP3 Converter. Makes Audio, Data & Mixed-Mode, CD-Extra and Bootable CDs.
Playing sound files WinAMP - www.WinAmp.com

AVI, MPG, MPEG, WM*

Video/Audio. Likely already have this one, the Windows Media Player comes included with newer versions of Windows and can do most of the video and sound file types.

RA, RAM

Video/Audio, you'll need a player from RealNetworks to handle this.
RealPlayer - www.Real.com

QT, MOV

Video/Audio, you'll need a player from Apple to handle this.
QuickTime - www.Apple.com

PDF

PDF files are "text" documents. PDF files let you view documents so they look right on any computer
Adobe Acrobat Reader - www.Adobe.com

Images

There are a LOT of other image types. IrfanView can display most of them.
